Accurate member data is essential to our work of addressing health disparities. That’s why we’re pleased to announce that for the 2024 open enrollment (OE) period, we’re expanding the availability of a third, nonbinary gender option to more lines of business.
New lines of business included in this data collection expansion are fully insured groups of 51-100 and Individual commercial members. The third gender value was added for fully insured large (101+) group and ASO employers in 2022.
Our enrollment system for these lines of business accepts three gender options: M (Male), F (Female), and O-Other/Nonbinary. The gender option O-Other/Nonbinary will be displayed in external applications and seen by members, employers and producers.
Accurate member information plays an important role in supporting health equity and improving outcomes for historically marginalized communities. Transgender and gender-diverse populations have unique needs and face hardships that increase their risk of poor health outcomes.
We encourage you and your employer groups to use the O-Other option intentionally when appropriate. The selection of O-Other can affect a member’s access to gender-specific clinical programs we offer, such as reminders for breast or cervical cancer screenings.
